Energy solutions company EcoFlow has announced expanded capabilities for its River and Delta portable power stations that will allow you to use them to power your home via a single plug.
This is thanks to compatibility with major transfer switches available on the local market. A transfer switch allows you to connect backup power solutions to your home’s main electrical panel.
The new compatibility means that users won’t need to relocate their portable power stations during loadshedding, but can use them to power their home’s grid via a switch.
“This compatibility empowers users to effortlessly connect EcoFlow portable power stations to their homes, suitable with a variety of transfer switches on the market” Joy Wu, Head of LAMEA&APAC at EcoFlow, said in a statement.
“In the face of relentless load shedding, this innovation provides an energy-efficient and time-saving solution. Users no longer need to shuffle power stations or appliances around to maintain essential functions. With a single switch, power will course through your home circuit.”
This switch can be installed by a qualified electrician and EcoFlow says the installation should only take around 20 minutes. The cost of major switches range between R500 and R1000, but this excludes labour.
While major transfer switches are now compatible with the River and Delta series, this solution is not recommended with the River 2, which is an entry-level device. Rather, depending on how many appliances and devices you want to power, a more robust solution is recommended.
For example, you could opt for a Delta 2 and an expandable battery.
To celebrate the news, EcoFlow South Africa is offering a range of special combos on its website. This combo includes a portable power station and a free transfer switch.
The available combos include the River Pro, Delta 2, and Delta Pro portable power stations.
