Nokia T20 tablet review: Balancing affordability and convenience

When it comes to affordable and reliable devices, HMD Global shines with its lineup of smartphones and tablets.

One of its offerings is the Nokia T20 tablet, which I spent a few weeks testing. So how does it stack up?

Nokia T20 tablet features

The Nokia T20 is aimed at being an affordable all-rounder that can be used for a variety of tasks.

Equipped with a 2K 10.4-inch display, the device is useful for general productivity workflows, light gaming, and streaming content.

According to HMD Global, the device is also meant to last, dubbing it “a tablet that takes all of life’s little knocks”.

You can see a summary of the tablet’s specs below:

  • Display: 10.4-inch 2K (1200 x 2000 pixels) display
  • Processor: Tiger T610
  • Front camera: 5MP
  • Rear camera: 8MP
  • Battery: 8200mAh
  • RAM: 4GB
  • Onboard storage: 64GB

Design

The Nokia T20 tablet has a simple but appealing design. Its bright display and front glass make the device feel modern. Even though it has significant display bezels, the tablet’s frame does not intrude much on the front of the device.

The back of the tablet comes in an attractive Ocean Blue that is aesthetically pleasing without being overly showy.

The lightweight device is easy to hold in a single hand, making it a convenient to carry, while still providing a large display.

One area where the design could be improved would be the inclusion of a kickstand, which could help prop up the device during video calls or while playing media. However, separate covers which serve this function can be bought.

Display

Speaking of the display, it’s bright and clear, allowing you to use the device in a variety of ways.

It’s great for watching content on YouTube, as its 2K resolution and 10.4-inch screen deliver an experience that’s more comfortable and engaging than watching content on a smartphone.

It also includes a brightness boost feature which makes for comfortable viewing even in brightly lit environments.

Another handy feature is the ability for the tablet to connect to your Windows computer to act as a secondary display. You can choose whether you want the tablet to mirror the main PC display or if you want it to act as an extended display.

Connecting the tablet was extremely easy and doesn’t require much effort, making this a nifty and easily accessible feature.

Battery

The device delivers great battery life, especially when it comes to standby time. I left the device unattended for over 10 days and returned to it still at 60%.

When put through a PCMark for Android battery benchmark, it lasted 10 hours and 30 minutes. The benchmark runs the device through a series of tasks and measures the time it takes to drop from 100% to 20%. During the test, I set the screen brightness to 50%.

This means the Nokia T20 can easily last you through the day even with moderate use.

Performance

The tablet handles everyday tasks easily, supported by its 4GB of RAM.

If you’re using it as a gaming device, it can handle simple games that aren’t too demanding. But when it comes to games like Marvel Snap, some lag is evident.

That said, it can still run these games, just at a lower framerate.

When run through the PCMark for Android Work 3.0 performance benchmark, the tablet achieved a score of 7650. This puts it in the performance range of mid-range devices like the Honor X8a and the Xiaomi Redmi Note 10T.

Review verdict: Is the Nokia T20 tablet worth it?

With a recommended price starting at R4,399, the Nokia T20 strikes a great balance between affordability and functionality.

Its 2K display is impressive and immersive, while its battery delivers decent battery life and exceptional standby time.

While its 64GB of onboard storage doesn’t give you a lot of space to work with, you can expand it with an SD card.

Overall, it’s a great tablet for daily tasks and watching content. If you want a tablet that can provide reliable functionality without breaking the bank, the Nokia T20 is a good contender.
