After months of speculation and rumors, Amazon has confirmed that it will launch its retail services in South Africa in 2024.
The service will launch with the Amazon.co.za website.
“We look forward to launching Amazon.co.za in South Africa, providing local sellers, brand owners, and entrepreneurs — small and large — the opportunity to grow their business with Amazon, and delivering great value and a convenient shopping experience for customers across South Africa,” Robert Koen, general manager of the Sub-Saharan Africa region for Amazon, said in a statement.
Independent sellers are already able to register their businesses on sell.amazon.com/south-africa.
However, the Amazon.co.za domain currently still redirects to Amazon.com.
South Africans have been able to order from Amazon’s US and UK sites in the past, but these orders are subject to exchange rates and customs fees.
With the launch of Amazon.co.za, customers will be able to order from local vendors and businesses.
