The iStore has announced availability of the iPhone 16 in South African stores — the same day as the smartphone series’ availability in the United States.

While South Africans usually have to wait a bit longer for iPhones to launch locally, the country has been included in the wave one territories for rollout.

The iPhone 16 series of smartphones was announced by Apple on 9 September, with pre-orders opening locally on 13 September.

The series includes the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max.

iPhone 16 price in South Africa

So how much will the new iPhone cost in South Africa? The standard iPhone 128GB starts at a price of R20,999 for prepaid. The iPhone 16 Plus 128 GB starts at R23,999. Meanwhile the iPhone 16 Pro 128GB starts at R26,499 and the iPhone 16 Pro Max 256GB starts at R31,799.

For the most expensive option, the iPhone 16 Pro Max 1TB, customers will need to pay R42,499.

Luckily, the smartphones are also available on contract from MTN, Vodacom, and Telkom.

Contract prices

Two tiers of contract prices are available for the iPhone 16 range. There is the normal tier and a tier dubbed Price Freeze, which involves the trade-in of an iPhone 14 range phone. For MTN, the price freeze is paid as a cash bulk-sum upfront.
